This two-volume method contains both his extensive inside-knowledge - acquired from his intense and friendly co-operation with "gitanos" and "maestros" - and the valuable experience of his long-standing teaching activitiy at national and international seminars and workshops. This guitar method is for everyone who is interested in the Flamenco guitar and its techniques. The logically structured method may serve as a guideline for everyone who has not found the right teacher or teaching materials yet, for everyone who plays Flamenco guitar, but still has questions about right hand techniques, and for everyone who teaches Flamenco guitar. At the same time, it is a reference book on questions about Flamenco in general. The two volumes contain all aspects I consider important to Flamenco guitar playing: Notation and tablature are not explained in this book because I assume that everyone knows these facts, as well as the basic techniques of the classical guitar. My many sojourns to Andalusia and my work in Madrid, as well as my friendship and acquaintance with greater and lesser Maestros, have influenced my knowledge and experience collected in this method - not forgetting my first inspiration by my long- standing friend and guitarist, Manolo Lohnes, who has contributed considerably to the development of Flamenco in Germany. During 15 years of teaching, I have repeatedly been challenged to think about and analyse what my fingers and, above all, the fingers of the great "Maestros" were doing, and how I could pass on my experience and the things I had learned. As everyone else who teaches Flamenco, whether guitar or dance, I was "made" a teacher by my students. Moreover, I learned a lot from countless per- formances which took place without rehearsals; in these cases, I was introduced to the dancers and singers in the dressing-room only shortly before the performance.

But finally it's an excellent book of study. Very casebook to follow. I started playing guitar a year ago, and really wanted to play flamenco. One person found this helpful.

Sheet music. The content of the book being the same in both cases, I refer you to my review of the former for my opinion. As far as explanations of technique go, a picture, and still more a DVD, is worth a thousand words, and I would guess that for the average student it will be well worth the extra money.

If true, this means that there are even more lunatics in the World than I thought. This is the best flamenco technique introduction book I have found. This and volume 2 go through all right hand techniques of flamenco minus rumba, different book and go through the different song types, starting with bulerias.

The accompanying dvd also shows all techniques very well, at slow and normal speed. As well all exercises are on the DVD for you to watch and listen, if you can't read music tabs and notes are displayed or if you want to hear it to make sure you are playing well.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn flamenco. Of course if you have never played guitar, flamenco is probably not the style to start with and this is not an introduction to guitar but an introduction to flamenco.

In addition, it's dirt sheep considering you would spend hours and months with a teacher to learn what's in here. High-five for this amazing serie. I've been playing and teaching flamenco guitar for more than a decade. This is by far the best book on flamenco I've come across. It is clear and methodical. It covers all of the characteristic parts of flamenco: It also does a great job of helping students understand flamenco. It goes into depth about how flamenco is put together and its complicated rhythm.

It relates rhythm to the "flamenco clock" which helps. I also recommend the author's flamenco metronome, available at his website. There are many books out there that will teach you to play a flamenco piece from start to finish. This book does not take this approach. Instead it teaches you to think like a flamenco.

Flamenco guitarists don't play a piece start to finish like a classical guitarist does, they put sections together in a very different way. This book does a great job of approaching flamenco guitar like real flamenco players do.

Few "method" books are actually method books. There is no method in them.

Not so with this one. It systematically covers everything you need to know, in great depth. I also recommend his volume 2 and his book on "Gypsy Guitar" which covers the rhumba style of flamenco Which is what most people think FLamenco is, i.
